5 Helpful Technological Tools for Caregivers

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

Advances in technology in the past few decades have allowed us to monitor ourselves and others. These advances have given us the ability to find answers to any and all of our questions with our fingertips. In the age of smartphones, we use apps for information and we stay connected to each other 24/7. Here are five helpful technological tools that you can utilize as a caregiver.

Available on Android and Apple iOS  Perhaps the best tool a caregiver can have is one that helps keep them organized. CareZone is an app that can help you keep track of medications, appointments, photos, and to-do lists. You can keep a journal of your senior’s symptoms or of changes in their health or eating habits, and you can even read news related to your senior’s health and interests.

Available on Android and Apple iOS  Proper medication management is the best way that a caregiver can help prevent their senior from suffering health problems and dangerous drug interaction complications. Dosecast is a medication management app. With this app, a medication’s name, dosage, and the time at which it was taken can all be tracked easily. The app keeps track of when the next dose should be taken and gives the user refill reminders.

As a caregiver, it is vital that you remember to reach out to others. You need to ask questions, tell your stories, and listen to other people’s stories. One of the best ways that you can help yourself avoid caregiver burnout is to stay connected to other caregivers and to have a support system. Through the right support group, you can find answers, and you can find friends.

Available on Android and Apple iOS GPS trackers can often be attached to clothing or worn as an accessory, like a bracelet or a necklace. Most phones have GPS trackers on them now as well, and many apps provide caregivers with easy-to-use ways of knowing the exact location of the person for whom they are caring. iTraq is a GPS tracking device that can be attached to any valuable, from something as small as a bag to something as big as a car. Cell tower triangulation is used to track iTraq tags. The tags sync up with the iTraq app that a caregiver installs on their phone.

Personal emergency response systems (PERS) are medical alert devices that a senior wears. The senior can press a button if they are in any kind of trouble, and a call goes out through the phone system. Medical Guardian offers several different devices, from in-home use only to on-the-go use as well. Posted by Regina Lawler The Cottages Blog on Jul 13, 2016 9:00:00 AM
